History, architecture, grandeur... and cool youthfulness:

Historic but youthful: that's Boston!

Sure, it is one of the oldest cities in the United States, but it's also a university and college town, with lots of young verve and thirst for entertainment.

Visit an art gallery, check out a grand edifice from the 1770s, hit the tiles at a disco or scream your lungs out at a Boston Red Sox game: it's all wicked pissah as they call it here!

SOME ATTRACTIONS:

Boston Common

  • Once a cattle-grazing pasture, and then a site where wrongdoers were put to the pillary and stock, Boston Common is now a glorious oasis within the city, enjoyed by all.
  • Make sure you visit the famous Frog Pond!
  • Boston Common is also where the famous Freedom Trail begins. If you have the time (about 3 hours), follow the trail to the Bunker Hill Monument on the north side of the Charles River and experience both American history and perhaps wet your whistle along the way at the famous Bell in Hand on Union Street, the oldest tavern in the USA.
  • Adjoining Boston Common is the Public Garden: 24 acres of shady trees and flower beds.

Beacon Hill

  • Boston's historic neighbourhood, full of history and affluence.
  • State House with its golden dome sits right on the peak of Beacon Hill; the seat of the government of Massachusetts.
  • Want to make a closer acquaintance with the ISRP Boston levels of sponsorship? Many of those historical personages are resting in the Granary Burying Ground: Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, John Hancock and others.

Downtown

  • If you love dynamic and vibrant marketplaces, nothing beats Faneuil Hall downtown, just a short walk from Beacon Hill. Here you will find a great market complex full of small booths and shops and quaint little places to enjoy a snack. While at Faneuil, visit The Marketplace Center and the South Market, right next door.

Hotel vicinity

  • The ISRP conference hotel is situated in the area known as Back Bay, a short walk west of the Public Garden. This is a well-looked-after area of grand dwellings, pruned gardens, brownstone buildings and little shopping treasures such as Newbury Street.
  • Admirers of architecture might want to visit Trinity Church and the magnificent Public Library.
  • Want to see the city from up above? Go up to the 50th floor of the Prudential Center and do the Skywalk for a breathtaking view of Boston.
